Cocktail bitters are concentrated, flavorful infusions made by steeping herbs, roots, spices, fruit peels, and botanicals in high-proof alcohol. They're used in small amounts (typically a few dashes) to add depth, balance, and complexity to a cocktail
This is the perfect deffination for those of you who are literal, unimagable, and basically boring.
Seeing as this is written for the creative, passionate and out of the box cocktail enthusiats, that is not the deffination we will be using instead keep reading.
Bitters, every dropped bestowed upon us mere mortals from the glorious gods of booze from the great beyond for lack of better words pure awesomeness the ultimate elixir.... Ok that might be a glorified overstatement, however this is written from my point of view so just deal with it.
Since the begining of man there was bitters, it has been documented that the earliest of ancient civilizations used bitters as medical elixars the Egyptians, Greeks, and the chinese..... This is where I interject and share with you my own theory and that of many area 51 belivers. The truth.. ET's great great grandmother created bitters as a form of punishment, "behavorial modifiers" if you will as vile threats for bad little hacthlings.
But as the written history for the masses evoloves into the middle ages where bitters were now more well known and all of the sudden monks decided we should jump on the band wagon and started creating these herbal tonics for not only medical, digestives and now for spiritual health....
A whole other segment on the greatest creation still in production by these so called monks... Yes hopefully you guessed it Chatreuse. Will be written at some point..
From the middle ages to 1700's bitters were very popular in Europe. Now in 1806 the first recipe listing bitters as an ingredient was published. FINALLY the recognition it deserves.
